Zoning Study for Hazardous Area Production Facility (ATEX/DSEAR)

Area classification is a method of analysing and classifying the environment where explosive atmospheres may occur in quantities such as to require special precautions to protect the safety of workers. The main purpose is to facilitate the proper selection and installation of apparatus to be used safely in that environment, considering the properties of the flammable materials that will be present.

The dangerous substances handled on site, include combustible dusts or powders, flammable gases and combustible liquids.  Materials capable of forming explosive (flammable) atmospheres were identified and relevant material data reviewed.

Projex Solutions Limited compiled a data book to detail each MSDS for the reactor along with a flammables material list detailing the flammability data, Lower Explosive Limits (LEL) and their Volatility.

From the data identified a Zone Extent was produced around the facility & zoning drawings produced. In additional to the zoning drawing a plant layout detailing the equipment in various areas on the plant was produced to identify the equipment   falling within the hazardous zones.
