HAZID

What is HAZID?

Here at Projex Solution’s we use HAZID’s at an early review stage to identify dangers and risks to a business. HAZID (Hazard Identification) is a qualitative approach for identifying possible dangers and risks that may result in death or injury as part of a procedure early on.

What does HAZID consist of?

HAZID considers both internal and external events such as weather effects and seeks to broaden the hazard understanding of those involved by encouraging lateral thinking. Whereas HAZOP is cause-driven, HAZID is consequence-driven. HAZOP can accept a conclusion that an event will not occur, while HAZID assumes that an event will occur and consequently requires a rigorous analysis of the sequence of events for it to occur.

The goal of a HAZID is to offer critical feedback into project development choices. It aids in the identification and examination of all potential sources of risk at all phases of a project. HAZID is broadly equivalent to What-if analysis.

There are a variety of advantages to delivering HAZID:

  • Reveals hazards at an early stage
  • Identifies opportunities for intrinsic safety
  • Hazards are recorded and managed or mitigated
  • Specific process modifications can be established at an early stage
  • Preventive measures can be applied
  • Budget overruns can be avoided
  • Establishes hazard screening criteria
  • Enables documentation of non-critical hazards that may otherwise be ignored

Reveals hazards at an early stage

HAZID is a preventative measure looking to identify hazards before they occur.

Identifies opportunities for inherent safety

HAZID looks to eliminate, reduce severity or scale, likelihood and protect people from hazards.

Hazards are recorded and managed or mitigated

HAZID helps to identifying sensible procedures to manage risks in the workplace.

Specific process modifications can be established at an early stage

HAZID will help to form the operating procedures later down the line.

Preventive measures can be applied

HAZID will save time further down the line.

Budget overruns can be avoided

HAZID ensures unnecessary spending will be capped, and a more accurate budget can be formed.

Establishes hazard screening criteria

HAZID Helps to develop safety measures in the future

Enables documentation of non-critical hazards that may otherwise be ignored

Non-critical hazards can still cause damage and risks to staff which will be highlighted from a HAZID.
